Aims and Objectives: This day aims to provide an update on the presentation and management of paediatric asthma. Content will particularly focus on pitfalls in asthma care, prevention of childhood deaths from asthma and management of difficult asthma. This day will be useful for primary care, paediatricians and trainees.
Teaching Methods: Lectures, presentations, hand-outs, question and answer sessions.
0845 Registration and coffee.
0915 – 0950 Update on acute asthma management. Dr Jen Townshend, Consultant Paediatrician, GNCH.
0950 – 1030 Lessons from asthma deaths. Dr Sam Moss, Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician, GNCH.
1030 – 1045 Coffee break.
1045 – 1120 What is asthma, what is not asthma – differential diagnosis, pitfalls and hazards. Dr Matt Thomas, Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician, GNCH.
1120 – 1215 Development of bubble CPAP and other lessons from Blantyre. Prof Liz Molyneux, Blantyre, Malawi.
1215 – 1245 Lunch.
1245 – 1330 Management of difficult asthma and future directions in asthma care. Dr Louise Fleming, Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician, Royal Brompton Hospital.

The study days are conducted on a monthly basis by the School of Paediatrics. This is an excellent provision for both established healthcare professionals, trainees and Associated Medical Professionals.
